How to play After Effects composition at the right speed

When editing anything in Adobe After Effects, you want the exported video or animation to play at the same speed as inside the editing software, but that is not always the case.

How to play After Effects composition in right speed

Your composition is set to a certain framerate (or “frames per second”) and to play it at “normal” speed, the “preview settings” inside After Effects have to be set to the same number as the composition.

So if you want to prevent your video from being played at the wrong speed, this is what you need to do:

Right-click on your composition (either in the timeline window or in the project window) and click “Composition Settings”.

Here, you check what “Frame Rate” your composition is set to, click OK, and then go to the “Preview” window.

This window shows what settings you want to review your composition at when hitting play.

So if the “Frame Rate” here is set to the same number as the composition, it should play the composition at the correct speed. (Both inside the program and after exporting the video.)
