5 things I wish I knew about focus

Maximizing your focus is an essential part of being a content creator when...

💡 Coming up with ideas
📝 Writing out scripts
🎥 Filming videos
🖥️ Editing
🔗 Marketing/Distributing
etc...

Video creation takes a lot of time. Simply "working more" is not the solution.
Instead, you want to get the most out of every minute you spend working.

You first need to make the right priorities.
Learn to say "no" and time block your remaining tasks.
But then you also need to follow up on your own commitments and focus on those tasks while doing them.

A plan is nothing without the execution.

You want to avoid:

❌ Physical distractions
❌ Mental distractions
❌ Multitasking
❌ Tasks that are TOO big (break them down)
❌ Diffuse task descriptions

Focus is different for every person too.

A first step can be to have a dedicated place to dump thoughts to (a "brain dump" list). This can help you offload mental distractions into a physical or digital page or document.

Some of these thoughts can then be transfered into your "PKM" (Personal Knowledge Management) as ideas for future social media posts or YouTube videos.

This can increase your focus while also reducing the time you need to come up with content ideas.

As you create more content, you'll learn what works best for you.
You might need to close the door behind you, take on headphones, set a timer, drink more water, take more breaks, have a good cup of coffee next to you... Find your way of finding focus.

After I've finished a project I always ask myself:

💭 What went well?
💭 What could have gone smoother?
💭 How can I make sure it does next time?

These questions help me learn and optimise my processes so that I can trust it even more and do more steps on autopilot and thereby prevent mistakes and saving mental energy which can result in better focus.

You should not waste your time memorizing processes.
It should be written down and practised until it is in your muscle memory.
You need your mental energy for more complex tasks (like creative decisions and problem-solving).

Remember that 6 focused hours of work can be more productive than 9 hours of "busyness".
