Why you should change your goal

I want to help 100 000 creators.
This goal has changed over the years and in this blog post I will share why it has changed and why you might also want to change your goal.

As a kid, I wanted to become a professional hockey player, then I wanted to work at Vayner Media in New York and then I wanted to reach 100 000 subscribers on YouTube (which still is an exciting milestone I'm aiming for).

But my focus now is to help 100 000 creators.
So, how do I do that?

My newsletter is one way of doing it.
My YouTube channel is another way.
This blog is a third one.
But I also do this by posting on social media.
And selling digital products.
And of course, via consulting.
And my online program "Streamlined Creator".

So why did my goal change?

Notice how the first 3 goals I mentioned at the start of this text were focused on ME.
It was centered around what I wanted to achieve for MYSELF.
I have now intentionally changed that to move the focus over to YOU.

I love being a creator and I want You to experience the same fulfilling feeling of making a living based on your passion.

Me as a kid, with a dream of becoming a professional hockey player

So to learn how to help 100 000 creators, I need to understand you better and identify your challenges and needs. This focus shift is decreasing the pressure on myself because it is no longer about my own perfectionism or how I'm perceived through my content or actions.

The more I understand you and your ambitions and goals, the better I can serve you with tips, ideas, and inspiration.

Also, by always moving forward on this journey, I gain more and more experience, which turns into reflections and conclusions that I can share.

Setting an ambitious goal like this also puts things into perspective.
I don't stress about my daily input as much. I allow myself to experiment and make mistakes because every step is just a very small part of the whole journey.

This blog post is for example repurposed from newsletter number 97 so it is just 1% of all newsletters I've sent. If this blog post is not delivering value to you, I don't take it personally. I simply look at it objectively to see what I can do better next time to serve you better.

Same thing with the 700+ videos I've done for YouTube over the years. I don't get emotional about the video performance. I look at the data and the feedback I get, analyze it objectively, and improve where I can.

I want to help 100 000 creators. This subscriber growth graph is an indication that I'm on the right track.

So how is this blog post helping you?

Hopefully, this can act as a reminder for you to not overthink decisions. To embrace the journey towards your goal instead of obsessing over every single step. Instead of trying to make things perfect, just try to make progress.

Forward movement and momentum will give you what you deserve. Just keep going.

(For the record, I've never looked back at any decision I've taken around content creation and thought: "I just wish I did that later." I learned and improved because I took action instead of postponing decisions.)

This is why this blog post is focused on confidence and self-leadership.
Two important things to have as an online creator.

Ask yourself:
How can you shift focus and serve others with your goal?
