Move faster by slowing down

Starting your content creation journey can be exciting.

✔️ You have decided on a niche/direction based on your skills and interests.
✔️ You have a publishing schedule to commit to
✔️ You have gotten an initial confidence boost from your traction

Well done! The first step is complete. ✅
A lot of people don't even start.

But then... you get ahead of yourself...

"Maybe, If I post more often, I could reach my goal quicker?"
"Should I take on more projects, because I have gaps in my calendar?"
"Can I make things more advanced to create better videos?

Developing your content and increasing your productivity are good things.
You want to do that.

But what you DON'T want to do is to increase the difficulty of your content process so much that you have no margins left for unexpected hurdles along the way.

What happens when you overcommit to something is that you will get a "content creation hangover". You think short-term and take temporarily decisions.

❌ You work longer days
❌ You get less sleep
❌ You take on too much
❌ You cheat with your health
❌ You cheat with your diet
Etc...

All these things are so easy to slip into because it doesn't affect you immediately. So you continue to do it until it becomes a habit.

You try to reach long-term goals with short-term decisions.
It works for a while. Until it doesn't.

The key is to adjust these "shortcuts" that you are taking BEFORE they impact your content schedule and your habits.

There's a reason you chose your posting schedule when planning out your channel and content creation process. It should be a level that you can keep no matter what challenges occur along the way.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't film new videos if you have time for it.
But you want to use that extra time and energy to get ahead.
Any content you make ahead of your plan is great to schedule.

(I was just sick for 6 days and still kept my streak of weekly uploads, because I've planned ahead and had things prepared for situations like these.)

And sometimes, a long break where you don't do anything content related can be the exact thing you need to reflect, gather thoughts, analyze, and see new perspectives. So creating more content can actually make you LESS productive.

Another thing you can do with your extra time is to experiment within your content. Try another angle, camera movement, graphic, sound effect, filming location etc... Sometimes it turns into a permanent change of your content and sometimes it just starts and ends as a simple experiment.
And that is fine. You learned something either way.

And mentally, it will always feel better to have...
1 weekly video posted and 2 videos scheduled
Than...
3 videos posted in 1 week and none for next week

Just because things are smooth now doesn't mean that it will always be like that.

That's why my online program "Streamlined Creator" is focused a lot around planning, processes, systems and habits. I don't want my clients to "blow up overnight". I want them to implement systems they can follow without my help. Systems that will serve them years and years from now.

Faster is not always faster. It is more about eliminating distractions than increasing the speed. (More on that below 👇)

The journey IS the goal, so make it worth it EVEN if you don't reach your goal.

Faster is not always faster

When it comes to growing on YouTube, people mostly talk about the content creation part (understandably so).

🧐 How can I get more views?
🧐 How can I make better videos?
🧐 How can I publish more regularly?

One thing that I rarely hear people talk about is how to enable regular content production into your schedule and eliminate distractions.

You have a better chance of growing on YouTube if you can find a way to create weekly videos for a couple of years rather than daily videos for a couple of months.

It creates a more sustainable habit, it gives you more time to analyze the performance of each video, it helps you mentally by not having to reduce the publishing frequency later on (and thereby lose momentum).

Take your time to find your format, your system, your way of working, and THEN start optimizing by reducing all the unexpected hurdles that WILL appear.
(Both within your content creation process but also outside of it.)

Improve your vehicle before increasing the speed.
The risk of crashing is always bigger when you drive faster.
